MORE ABOUT ME

I grew up in Zuoz, a small Swiss village located in the Engadin valley. I spent 13 years of my childhood here before my family moved back to the UK in 2003. Having had a multilingual upbringing in Switzerland, speaking English, German and Romansh interchangeably on a daily basis, I knew early on that language was a major part of my identity.

Not being able to shake the multilingual part of me, I went to university to study German, French, and Spanish. Every time I was allowed to choose my own research topic, I focused more and more on issues of multilingualism and minority languages. I decided to do a Masters in Translation Studies in Wales since it gave me the opportunity to complete my thesis on any language of my choosing and so I concentrated on Romansh. So I decided to translate the Romansh work Parevlas Engiadinaisas by Gian Bundi into English as part of my Master's Thesis.

Still not having satisfied my curiosity for research into Romansh, I went on to do a Ph.D. exploring the writing, translation, and illustration of picture books written in a minority language. I focused on the works of the author-illustrator team Selina Chönz and Alois Carigiet and author-illustrator Tomi Ungerer.

I have worked as a freelance translator from German and French into English since 2015. I have had contracts with multiple translation agencies and focused on texts of a medical, biomedical, and pharmaceutical nature. Most recently, I have translated two works from Romansh into English for Strangers Press Publishing: Rut Plouda's Sco scha nüglia nu füss and Romana Ganzoni's Vent per mia vela, released under the titles As If Nothing Were and Blackboard.

I have taught language and translation-related subjects at several institutions, including Cardiff University and the Academia Engiadina.
